About MTG
Marketing & Technology Group is a Chicago-based business-to-business media company whose publications and websites serve the information needs of the meat, poultry and foodservice industries.
MTG was founded in 1993 by longtime editor and publisher Mark Lefens, who saw a need for more targeted editorial that served meat and poultry processors. Enlisting the aid of publishing veteran Jim Franklin and several former colleagues from Advanstar Communications, Lefens launched two startup publications, Meat Marketing & Technology (now meatingplace IN PRINT) in six short weeks after its inception and Poultry Marketing & Technology (now POULTRY) only two months later. The magazines were immediately hailed as successes, doubling in size their second year.
These two publications formed the core of Marketing & Technology Group, whose mission was to stay true to a quality editorial product and deliver significant and measurable value to its readers and advertisers.
Seeing an unfulfilled need for hands-on, technical information among Latin American meat and poultry processors, the company launched the Spanish language CarneTec magazine one year later.
MTG’s founders quickly recognized that the future of business-to-business information and marketing lie in integrating electronic and print media. That vision led to the 1996 debut of Meatingplace.com, which has emerged as the meat and poultry industries’ premier news and information source. That leadership position was further enhanced by the addition of its daily e-newsletter, Newsmakers, in 1999.
Meatingplace.com’s unique member authentication process allows it to maintain a database of member profile information and track member usage. Member authentication also allows Web advertisers to select their targets and pay only for those targets reached.
In 2002, MTG launched Plate, an all-culinary foodservice publication. Plate’s special blend of recipe, menu and chef-to-chef editorial was just right mix to break through the clutter of a crowded market and earn unprecedented industry acceptance and growth with wide reader and advertiser support.
Consistently enhancing its product mix and staying true to its original commitment of delivering quality editorial to readers and value to customers, Marketing & Technology Group remains at the forefront of business-to-business media. What began as a visionary start-up company has grown into a fierce media presence poised for future growth, as new opportunities and unfulfilled information needs arise.
