SindelarDr. Karina G. Martino conducts research in food safety and process engineering. She also assists food industries through her role in the Extension and Outreach program, through direct contacts, site visits, and through regular workshops held at UGA, including basic and advanced HACCP, marination for the meat and poultry industry, and poultry processing: covering the latest in processing, safety and quality (held entirely in Spanish). Dr. Martino’s current research activities include marination optimization in meat and poultry applications, to enhance yield and safety, and validation of current and new intervention technologies for pathogen reduction and control.

OwensDr. Owens conducts research to evaluate the effects of preslaughter environmental conditions and processing techniques on muscle metabolism and meat quality of poultry. Her research has focused on the development of pale, soft, exudative (PSE) meat in turkeys and broilers and the use of postmortem electrical stimulation in poultry. In addition to her research, Dr. Owens teaches Egg and Meat Technology and Value Added Muscle Foods at the undergraduate and graduate levels for students in Poultry Science, Food Science, and Animal Science. She also serves as an undergraduate academic advisor, and Dr. Owens has directed research of numerous Ph.D. and M.S. graduate students in addition to undergraduate research.

KochPeter has worked in numerous capacities for CMA since joining the company in sales and marketing. He developed many of the CMA marketing materials and website and eventually led the day to day operations as Vice President of Operations. After completing his tenth year with CMA, Peter was recognized as Meat Processing Magazine’s “Rising Stars” in 2004. For the past six years, Peter has worked in sales leading the company’s food service side of the business. Currently, his position is Vice President of Business Development working on strategic projects and purchasing. Within the business, he is involved with North American Meat Processors where he serves on the organization’s Board of Directors.
